Main Features
This piece is a collaboration with Echizen ware, a traditional craft from Fukui Prefecture. The rim is less than 1mm thick, an extremely difficult level of thinness for pottery, and it is finished by the artisan’s fingers after wheel throwing without trimming.
To preserve the natural texture of the material, genuine gold leaf is applied with lacquer adhesive, and no top coat is used so the original refined shine of the gold leaf can be fully appreciated.
As a kozuke small bowl, it can be used as a sake vessel for special occasions or as a small dish for elegant food presentation. It is suitable for small side dishes or snacks served with drinks.
Design Story
The piece evokes the feeling of scooping up the moon reflected on the surface of water while enjoying fine sake. Its delicate mouthfeel and glowing genuine gold leaf create a quietly luxurious drinking experience.
As it is used over time, the gold leaf gradually settles into the uneven surface of the vessel and develops a deeper character. It is described as a piece that changes with age and becomes uniquely yours.
